Square Faces
Japanese people love cute cartoon images. Their love for these pretty cartoons inspired me during my stay in Japan. In book stores, There is a huge area full of Manga books and comics as well as huge Manga shopping centres. If you take a look in the streets, you will find cartoon figures everywhere without any effort –- from advertisements to the introductions in museums, Japanese people's love for cartoon figures can be found everywhere.
Thus, I would like to present a “cute” work at this time. By using a similar method as to how the Japanese created their Kana from ancient Chinese characters. I created 20 Li Li styled characters from Japanese Kanji. Then, I used squares, the shape of Chinese characters, as face outlines for the 20 Li Li styled characters, to make them look like “emoji”—emoticons. Now, you can scan the QR codes here in the exhibition to get the animated emoticons, which can be used on Weichat. Every QR code is related to one animated emoticon.
